Kothaligad, also known as Peth Fort, is a striking pinnacle fort nestled in the Sahyadri ranges near Karjat, standing at about 3,100 ft (945 m). Famous for its carved caves, rock-cut water cisterns, and a unique spiral staircase inside the pinnacle, this trek offers both adventure and heritage.
The trail begins from Ambivali or Peth village and is relatively easy to moderate, making it perfect for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. The trek takes about 4–5 hours (round trip), with lush forests, ancient pathways, and charming villages along the way.
At the summit, trekkers are rewarded with 360° panoramic views of surrounding peaks like Prabalgad, Siddhagad, Chanderi, Malanggad, and the Matheran plateau. Seasonal highlights include waterfalls in monsoon, fireflies during pre-monsoon nights, and breathtaking sunrises during winter treks.
